Miss World 2010 News Update

On Oct 8th, China’s fashion capital Shanghai welcomed Miss World contestants. They awoke to attend Shanghai's International Expo. Duration of Expo is from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010 with
Expected 70 million visitors. You can virtually attend it, too! I have provided a link. Almost every country has a pavilion set up. The ones that are highlighted are really special. (Pavilion List) It is truly a treat in animation.

That evening the girls attended the Miss World Charity Auction Gala. Each contestant brought with her a gift from her country to auction. Shanghai’s rich and famous came to the aid of the flood-stricken island of Hainan when the Miss World 2010 charity auction raised $270,133. Top-seller of the night was a stunning silver citrine necklace donated by Venezuela, in an exclusive design by Lilia Lopez, entirely handmade and unique, which raised $30,014.

The many aspects of beauty in a modern multicultural society were highlighted by ten Miss World contestants when they addressed the 39th Cultural Forum as part of Shanghai EXPO 2010. Representatives from United States, Egypt, England, South Africa, Botswana, Australia, Netherlands, Venezuela, Saint Lucia and China each spoke on the subject of ‘The Beauty of EXPO in a Multicultural Society’. Each contestant prepared their own five minute talk, with conditions in their home nations and experiences of attending Miss World 2010 coloring their individual takes on the topic.

Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino told the Forum how her experience as a contestant had opened a world of opportunity and understanding. She said: “When I came home, I looked on a map and I didn’t see a mass of unknown countries. I saw faces. I saw friends.”

Waving Goodbye to Shanghi after enjoying some traditional crafts such as Beijing opera, paper cutting, dumpling making and some fun games with chopsticks. After the visit to old Shanghai, the contestants headed to the airport for the night flight to Sanya, home of Miss World in China.
