Miss World Update

Rains delay beachwear shoot, but the girls make the best of it. The contestants were each given a beautiful fan as a commemorative gift. The day's top 40 semi finalists in Miss World Beachwear were: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Botswana, Bolivia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Cayman Islands, China PR, Czech Republic, France, French Polynesia, Ghana, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong China, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Martinique, Moldova, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Russia, St Lucia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Zimbabwe.

The reigning Miss World Kaiane Aldorino, accompanied by ten contestants, took much needed aid relief to some of the people most affected by the recent rainfall on Hainan island. The tropical island paradise of Hainan has seen the worst rainfall for decades with floods resulting in homes being destroyed and even loss of life. Along with a check for $45,ooo, they distributed ten tons of rice and five tons of cooking oil to the families of those most affected.

On a break from rehearsals, 50 Miss World contestants took the opportunity to visit the historic Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone, where they stood at the feet of a gigantic white and bronze statue of Buddha.

Built on a man-made island just off the Hainan coast and rising to 108 meters, it is the tallest standing Buddha statue in the world.



Miss Puerto Rico Yara Liz Lasanta Santiago is the first semi-finalist in Miss World 2010 by winning the Beach Beauty fast-track event.

Miss World’s Beach Beauty competition, the first of 5 fast-track events, happened on October 20 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Sanya, China.

The Top 40 were trimmed down to the Top 20. The 20 were trimmed down to Top 5 where Puerto Rican beauty Yara Liz Santiago emerged as winner.

The Top 5 are Miss China Xiao Tang (4th), Miss United States Alexandria Mills (2nd), Miss Puerto Rico Yara Lasanta(Winner), Miss Norway Mariann Birkedal (3rd) and Miss French Polynesia Mihilani Teixiera (5th).



The second fast track results are in for the Miss World 2010 Sportswoman and Northern Ireland is the winner! Slovakia took second place and Norway came in third. They each received a medal and a bouquet of flowers. The event took place on the beach, gardens and pool of the Sheraton Sanya Resort. After a well-deserved lunch back at the Crowne Plaza Sanya, the girls went back into rehearsals for Saturday’s Chinese Fashion Show on a stage in front of the hotel.
