Miss World 2007-Torch Bearer for the Universiade Torch Relay

Miss World 2007, Zhang Zilin, joined 160 torchbearers including 42 foreign athletes at the Universiade Torch Relay in Shenzhen, a city of South China’s Guangdong Province. The foreign torchbearers from nearly 40 countries and regions are all university students competing in the Games.

Guards used the flame lantern to light the torch prior to the torch relay for the 26th Summer Universiade. Traditionally, the torch symbolises sacredness, illumination and enlightenment and the torch relay was first held at night as a religious ritual in ancient Greece. Later it gradually became a group sport mainly attended by teenagers and now it is the most popular cultural campaign for sports events in the world.

The 10-kilometre relay route commenced at 07:30am and went past Longcheng Square, Longxiang Boulevard, Universiade Main Sports Centre and Universiade Village in Longgang District.

Celebrities from the sports sector, provincial and national representatives of the students group called ‘youthful dreams line the Grand Canal’ and Miss World 2007, Zhang Zilin participated in the event.

Well Done Zilin!
