Ecuador Wins Miss Earth!

Congratulations to Ecuador’s Olga Alava on her new title of Miss Earth 2011.
This year’s theme for the contest was “The Earth is Crying, Let the Earth Smile Again”, with the slogan “Celebrating Forests for People” in an effort to raise awareness of the effects of climate change. Alava embodied the title of Miss Earth 2011 along with more than 80 plus contestants competing for the title in the Philippines, where this year’s show took place.
Carousel Productions, the powers behind The Miss Earth Beauty Pageant claim this beauty pageant is different from any other in the fact that their concept is a new and improved contest for the new millennium.
Carousel is well established in the world of world-class beauty pageants but decided to promote this particular contest not just about pretty faces but about beautiful women who can also act as advocates for worthy causes.
2010’s winner, Nicole Faria of India was ready to pass the crown to the 23-year old native of Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Alava’s platform was to preserve the forests and expand by planting more trees.  She demonstrated that platform by presenting an ecological project for safeguarding Ecuador’s mangroves.
When asked about environment preservation, Alava articulated her beliefs; “Education is the best solution for the environment because children are those who have to preserve the Earth for future generations.”
This model beauty really does have brains too; the international business school graduate has also studied Asian culture, studied in China for a year, and speaks fluent Mandarin.
As Miss Earth, Alava received $20,000 as well as other rewards.  This year’s winner is also expected to serve as an “ambassador to environmental protection campaigns worldwide as well as a spokeswoman for the United Nations Environment Program, the Miss Earth Foundation.”
I have to admit, this pageant is a bit different from all of the others but in “different” ways, they seem to have adopted a very “PC” approach to choosing winners, because it seemed like a great deal of the contestants actually won some kind of title.
They had an award for best national costume, which went to Miss Japan, Miss Photogenic went to Miss Chinese Taipei, the Miss Friendship award went Miss Pakistan, best Swimsuit was Miss Czech Republic, Miss Mexico won best Evening Gown and Miss South Africa was the winner in best Talent.
But only Miss Ecuador got to wear the crown.
Crowned Miss Earth-Air 2011 was Miss Brazil Driely Bennettone; Miss Earth-Water 2011 is Miss Philippines Athena Mae Imperial; and Miss Earth-Fire 2011 is Miss Venezuela, Caroline Medina.
