Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler to serve as a vocal mentor for MACY'S STAR SPANGLED SING-OFF Winner

New York, NY – April 10, 2012 – This Spring, Macy’s invites America’s most talented vocalists to sing their hearts out and show their patriotism, for the chance to win Macy’s Star Spangled Sing-Off. Today, Macy’s kicks-off the search for a vocalist or group, to sing the National Anthem for the score of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks® - Ignite the Night, the nation’s largest Independence Day pyrotechnic display. Interested singers can log-on to Macy’s Facebook page (facebook.com/macys) and learn about the search from Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler, who will also serve as a vocal mentor to the winner. Entries will be accepted now through April 22nd, for the chance to take center stage during America’s most explosive party.
“As the nation’s premiere Independence Day pyrotechnic display, Macy’s Fireworks ignite the sky with a jaw-dropping celebration each year,” said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. “The Star-Spangled Banner is always a highlight of the display and drives home the meaning of the holiday for millions. The opportunity to be the featured vocalist during the explosive high-flying show will truly be a life changing experience for the lucky singer who will help us honor the nation.”
The winner of Macy’s Star Spangled Sing-Off will record a new version of the National Anthem for the score of the Macy’s Fireworks with the help of vocal mentor Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler, and Macy’s creative team. The newly recorded version of the Anthem will be added to the final Fireworks score to which the show is designed and synchronized.

As a singer, performer and a vocal coach, I look forward to working with America's next rising star to help them prepare for this extraordinary opportunity to step into the spotlight as an artist, as I have been able to do as Miss America this year," stated Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler.
The winner and three guests will also receive a trip to New York City to see the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration live. Fans across the nation will have the opportunity to download a free copy of the recording from Macy’s Facebook page.
To participate, vocalists must log-on to Macy’s Facebook page (facebook.com/macys), “Like” Macy’s and the Star Spangled Sing-Off app, and then upload their videos. Entries will be accepted from Tuesday, April 10th through Sunday, April 22nd. Singers should submit a video of themselves or a group of up to four vocalists performing The Star Spangled Banner acapella or with self-accompaniment (no pre-recorded tracks are allowed). On Tuesday, April 24th, Macy’s will display all of the eligible entries on the Sing-Off tab and invite fans to vote for their favorite versions through Monday, April 30th. With more than 3 million live spectators and millions tuned in nationwide, New York City’s Hudson River will host America’s most explosive party. The 36th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will fire more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells during an approximate 25-minute synchronized display. Designed in collaboration with SOUSA Fireworks, the show will be set off from barges positioned on the Hudson River from 18th to 48th Streets. With an average of 1,600 shells launched per minute, Macy’s Fireworks show is truly a dazzling spectacle.
Independence day revelers from coast-to-coast will have a front row view of the pyro in the sky by tuning to NBC’s national broadcast of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular beginning at 9:00 PM (check local listings). In addition to the pyrotechnic splendor, the 4th of July’s most popular entertainment broadcast will feature a star-studded line-up of performances by the nation’s hottest recording artists.
