Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler &The Duke Of Edinburgh's Award

Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler and Board Chairman Sam Haskell and Duke of Edinburgh's Award USA Executive Director, Josh Randle, joined the Miss Alabama Scholarship Organization to participate in a series of special events around HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex's visit last weekend for the 2012 Duke of Edinburgh's Award presentation to Miss America Organization local and state titleholders. The Award, which can be earned by anyone ages 14 to 25, awards bronze, silver and gold medals to those who complete requirements in four areas: community service, physical fitness, special skill and adventurous journey.
The Miss Alabama Organization hosted HRH The Prince Edward and Miss America for afternoon tea for this year's recipients of the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Laura assisted His Royal Highness in presenting the medals to the Miss Alabama contestants who proudly earned these prestigious awards. State titleholders who were in attendance included Miss Alabama 2011 Courtney Porter, Miss Connecticut 2011 Morgan Amarone, Miss Florida 2011 Kristina Janolo, Miss Maine 2011 Julia Furtado, Miss North Carolina 2011 Hailey Best, Miss Ohio 2011 Ellen Bryan, Miss South Carolina 2011 Bree Boyce, Miss West Virginia 2011 Spenser Wempe, and Miss Wyoming 2011 Catherine Brown.
Later that evening, Laura attended the Duke of Edinburgh-Royal Gala, a fundraiser for the organization. To mark this memorable evening, Laura performed, along with several other state titleholders from the class of 2012. Miss America 2005 Deidre Downs Gunn was also in attendance and added to the magic of the night.
The next day, Laura attended a brunch at the home of Dr. Andy and Jeanna Westmoreland,  President of Samford University. She then spoke to Miss Alabama state contestants and their local directors during a workshop.
These royal events were created and hosted by the Executive State Director of the Miss Alabama Scholarship Organization, Nan Teninbaum. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Nan and the rest of the Miss Alabama Scholarship Organization for their gracious hospitality, as well as a special thanks to their wonderful volunteers who helped make this an incredibly memorable weekend for HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
