Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler Celebrates MAO Chairman’s Trailblazers Award

Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler along with Mississippi organizers gathered on Saturday evening to honor Miss America Board Chairman and entertainment executive Sam Haskell for the Mississippi Trailblazer of the Year Award. Sam, an Amory native was among those Mississippians recognized for their outstanding contributions and legacies honored during a special ceremony in Tupelo.

The theme of the program was Celebrating Diversity: the Strength of Mississippi. Sam was celebrated as an "American treasure" and was presented with the Trailblazer Award for his contributions for diversity. Sam’s wife Mary, a former Miss Mississippi, joined her husband along with Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler to celebrate MAO’s Trailblazer.

Laura performed the song Astonishing and stated, "Sam’s a wonderful person. He's so dedicated to his community and his family and friends and the Miss America Organization as a whole." Laura continued, "I'm proud to be here in support of him tonight."

Laura also had the opportunity to visit with Miss America 1960 Lynda Mead Shea while in Mississippi and last week, visited with Miss America 1957 Marian McKnight when she was in California. Laura begins an exciting week ahead working on her personal platform and preparing for a spectacular Memorial Day Weekend ahead.
