Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler Shines in California

Dressed in Neil Lane diamonds, Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler attended The Annual Army Birthday Ball this weekend in Long Beach with our nation’s most important heroes. She was accompanied by Miss California 2011 Noelle Freeman, and performed four songs to entertain our troops and their families.
Laura met former soldier and actor J.R. Martinez, who gave an emotional message to those gathered there.

"My scars were my new uniform, my words were now my new weapon," he said as civilians and soldiers sat side by side for a celebration of their service.

Those who recently returned from Afghanistan say it's something they'll never forget.

"Being part of something that's larger than yourself, you have to work together as a team in order to get things accomplished," said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jose Ramirez.
For the 200 soldiers in attendance, it was the chance to celebrate with the brass and celebrities. All costs were covered by donations from the public.

The next day, Laura had the special opportunity to sing the National Anthem and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California during the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. the Texas Rangers baseball game.

Today, Laura is in the San Francisco Bay area working with children from Project Avary, mentoring and inspiring children who have come from homes of incarcerated parents.
