Miss World In Philippines Fundraising Efforts

The Miss World charity, Beauty With A Purpose, has made the decision to direct all of its fundraising efforts into supporting the people of the Philippines. The newly crowned Miss World, Megan Young, who is from the Philippines, will be attending fundraising events in the United States next week to raise as much money as possible to help her fellow Filipinos.

Typhoon Haiyan, the second deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, devastated huge swathes of the Philippines last Friday, leaving in its wake a trail of destruction, broken homes and broken lives. 2,344 people have been confirmed dead and in excess of 11 million left homeless.
When Miss Philippines, Megan Young, was crowned Miss World in September of this year, she could not have imagined the level of disaster that was about to strike her home country, only a couple of months later.
In order to raise as many funds as possible, a series of fundraising events will take place in the United States next week. On Tuesday 19th November, Miss World will join the Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General New York, the Hon. Mario Lopez de Leon Jr.  He will be hosting a special evening with Miss World for prominent members of the Filipino community in New York state.
Members of the public will be able to show their support for the Philippines with an event at the Double Tree by Hilton I Newark, NJ the following day, 20th November. Originally planned as a reception dinner celebrating the coronation of the Philippines first ever Miss World, the event will now focus on the fundraising powers of the Miss World Organisation, with everyone coming to the event making a donation to the relief funds.
The third event in will take place in LA on the 21st November and will be an official announcement of the co-operation between Beauty With a Purpose and the Filipino Official Delegation in the United States beginning with the raising of funds for the Haiyan Typhoon disaster relief.  Hosted by the Consul General of Los Angeles, the event, held at the Beverly Hills Country Club will be a chance for the Filipino community of LA to show their support for their nation as well as local stars and celebrities who want to get involved.
Megan will be auctioning off some of the iconic dresses that she wore on her journey to the Miss World Final and beyond, including her National Dress Costume, her homecoming gown and the outfit she wore when she was crowned Miss World in Bali.
She will then be travelling to the Philippines on the 27th November with a Beauty With A Purpose delegation, bringing all the funds raised in the United States straight to the Philippines.
On the 28th and 29th Miss World will be visiting Typhoon victims’ evacuation centres and earthquake victims’ centres in Tacloban City and Cromo, Palawan, areas affected particularly badly by Typhoon Haiyan.
Megan’s home is in the Philippines and she has family over there that she is desperately worried about. She will be focusing all her efforts on raising as much money and awareness as she possibly can for her home country and the people that she loves and cares about. Who better a spokesperson for this terrible tragedy than an ambassador for the world – Megan Young.
Megan said: "I am devastated by the images I have seen of my homeland over the last week.  My fellow Filipinos are so wonderful and strong but they desperately need help to get through this disaster.  The amount of support we have had so far has been incredible but we need a lot more.  I hope that I can help out as much as I can through my role as Miss World and through Beauty With A Purpose where 100% of the money raised goes straight to those who need it.  I am praying for my country and my people."
